Nine Weeks Down...Four Years to Go

By JAMIE RIXIE, Contributing Writer

Every day my parents and teachers drill into me the idea that “you are at Stanton College Prep, one of the best schools in the nation and you’re going to have to work hard to stay here.” As a freshman it’s already proving to be true. My friends and I are either loaded down with homework, cramming for tests, or worse, both. I’ve heard the work load gets worse, but in the end I feel it will be worth it when I get to college. This upcoming nine weeks I am going to try to do a better job of managing my time so I can relax and have a little more fun. As for transitioning into high school, I look at it as a larger version of middle school with more freedom and less responsibility. But then there’s that minor setback of being at the bottom of the “food chain.” High school is the final stage before college, and I’m realizing that four years isn’t a long time to wait. Starting high school has made me see that sooner than I think, it will be over and I’ll be starting fresh again.
