Memory Lane

Students, faculty, and alumni can now pay $25 to have an engraved brick placed in the courtyard next to the auditorium as a part of a project to beautify Stanton’s campus.
The courtyard renovation, sponsored by PTSA, will also include replacing and removing many of the benches that sit in the courtyard and relandscaping many of the damaged flower beds near the side of the auditorium. Other plans for the renovation include the addition of tables and new trash cans.
The construction will be completed by Florida Rock, under the supervision of Mr. Jeff O’Leary, father of Stanton sophomore Samantha O’Leary. Student Activities Director Mrs. Marigene O’Connor, who is also overseeing the project, expects the courtyard renovation to cost approximately $35,000, with about 15,000 bricks needed to pave the courtyard. Stanton has applied for a money grant from Lowe’s Home Improvement to help fund the project.
According to Mrs. O’Connor, there are many steps that need to be taken before the actual brick paving can take place. “We need an excavation four inches deep, and then a surface grading,” said Mrs. O’Connor. “Sand needs to be laid down and compacted.” She would like construction to begin in the spring, if possible, due to financial issues.
